The Dog Who Lives at the Waldorf, Brough, James
9 Brough, James The Dog Who Lives at the Waldorf
Little, Brown 1964 Very Good Vasiliu
First Edition. Hardcover in dust jacket. Spine faintly darkened, tips lightly rubbed; otherwise Fine. Autographed by the author and with the paw-print of Jingabo on the title page.

"Sir Galahad of Riversville ( Jingabo for short) lives on the thirty-ninth floor of the Waldorf Towers, overlooking Madison Avenue, the pigeons and the Hudson River. He is the bachelor half of a family of two, an arrangement made quite legal by the fact that Sir Galahad is, as his 'Ever Loving' tactfully explains, a member of the 'canis sapiens', in other words, a dog. It is his canine journal of seven days at the Waldorf which makes up this delightful book." The real-life story of the dog and his companion Rosalind Cole is fascinating. She was the lady who, after her death in 2014, was found to be in arrears of one million dollars in back rent to the Waldorf-Astoria.

A Wonderful dog's-eye view of top tier life in Manhattan in the days of high hotel living, illustrated by the inimitable pooch artiste Vasiliu.

12 Crane, Hart The Bridge: A poem
Liveright 1970 0871400405 / 9780871400406 Paperback As new
1970 edition. Softcover, with no marks or defects. Important American poem - one of the highpoints in 20th century American poetry. Begun in 1923 and published 1930, The Bridge is Crane's major work, tying him to modernism as expressed in Precisionist and American Scene painting movements, post-pictorialist photography( think of Charles Sheeler) and the straightforward lyricism of expatriate writers of his day. "Very roughly," he wrote a friend, "it concerns a mystical synthesis of 'America' ... The initial impulses of 'our people' will have to be gathered up toward the climax of the bridge, symbol of our constructive future, our unique identity."
