1 A.S. Byatt Opowiadania z Matisse'em w tle (Polish)
Proszynski i S-ka 1999 8371804938 / 9788371804939 Hardcover Very Good
Hardcover with glossy Fauvist front side. NO marks; no writing in book. Text is in Polish. Three stories celebrate the eye even as they reveal its unexpected proximity to the heart. Each of A.S. Byatt's narratives is in some way inspired by a painting of Henri Matisse, but also about the intimate connection between seeing and feeling. Superbly crafted, intensely observed, The Matisse Stories is a reflection of a master's spellbinding authority.

Twarda oprawa z błyszczącą fowistyczną stroną przednią. NO znaków; bez pisania w książce. Tekst jest w języku polskim. Trzy historie cieszą oko, nawet gdy ujawniają nieoczekiwaną bliskość serca. Każdy z A.S.

11 Cayrol, Jean Les Enfants Pillards: Recit (French Edition)
Seuil 1981 202004756X / 9782020047562 Paperback Very Good
Paperback. 1981 printing. Text a little age-toned. Binding is nice and glossy. Holding up nicely. Old price penned inside front.

The children are alone, or almost. In the summer of 1918, the adults are absent from the life of a whole band of cousins who find themselves at the edge of a beach that echoes of the war taking place offshore. 13-year-old Andre quickly became the leader of the small group that Jean-Baptiste, eight-year-old painter of his comrades, tried to integrate. Under the direction of this inconsequential tyranny, children play to adults, but by recreating a world of their own, truth and lies merge in the exaltation of a deceptive liberty. If the sea offers them a grandiose playground, it also rejects the bodies of wounded sailors, as well as the barrels of rum with which the villagers get drunk, which the children watch with a sneer. In this clearly autobiographical narrative, Jean Cayrol (1911-2005) depicts these forbidden games with a muffled cruelty that evokes that of Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Originally published in 1978 and now reissued, Les Enfants Pillards is one of the highlights of the bibliography of Jean Cayrol, author including Lazarus Among Us (1950) and Night and Fog (1956), the documentary by Alain Resnais. Later in life, he rediscovered poetry, and was also known as a publisher. His entire work was marked by the shadow of the concentration camps - Jean Cayrol spent three years at Mauthausen - and the necessity of mercy.
