Abbott, Jacob Franconia Stories G.P. Putnam's sons 1923 Hardcover Very Good 1923 hardcover, bound in blue cloth. No marks or writing in book. Binding is sound. Text block is clean. Tidemark to top edge, but no water damage to individual leaves. There is a little wear to the spine ends and very tips of extremities. 321 pages. The tales included chronicle the adventures of a number of youngsters in and around the White Mountain village of Franconia. Humorous and moralistic, these tales were extremely popular in the nineteenth century. This edited edition of the Franconia stories was published in 1923 by G. P. Putnam's Sons. Edited by Margaret Armstrong and illustrated by Helen Maitland Armstrong, this large 8.25" x 6" book was published with a dust jacket (our copy lacks the jacket). It has 321 pages and consists of a number of abridged stories from the original Franconia books. Abraham Lincoln was a fan of Abbott and his brother (also a writer.) Lincoln even wrote a letter to the Abbotts expressing his pleasure with their books.
