1 Abbott, Lee K. Love Is the Crooked Thing: Stories (Bright Leaf Short Fiction III)
Algonquin Books 1986 091269730X / 9780912697307 Hardcover Like New
Hardcover in dust jacket. NO wear, no marks or defects. Signed by the author on the title page; no gift inscription.

11 short stories include variations on familiar themes: romance on a bus trip, a young man who faces death to win his wife, the relationship of a father and son, a pro football player's decision to marry, and a soldier's experiences in Vietnam Most of the stories, set in the border state of New Mexico, are redolent of down-home insularity, peopled with extravagantly named, raffish characters with expressive diction.

Lee K. Abbott is the author of seven collections of short stories and is a professor emeritus of English at the Ohio State University in Columbus. He attended college at the University of New Mexico.

16 Bates, Katherine Lee Little Robin Stay-behind: And other plays in verse for children
The Womans Press 1923 Hardcover Good Fair
Hardcover First Edition, signed by the poet on the title page. The book is in Very Good condition, but the dust jacket is tattered and aged. Now protected, under a clear mylar sleeve, the jacket has tears, chips and some stains/ spots. Board edges are a little scuffed. These make-believe rhyming plays for children are wonderful old-time pieces reflecting a love of nature, fairyland and a vein of paganism that remains childlike and fanciful, following the wheel of the year through the seasons.
